Greensboro NC 30 October 2014

Greensboro, NC

October 30, 2014

Some flew down to North Carolina, some drove, and the Northeast Fans On the Run were there for the last US show of the Out There tour for 2014.

Layover at BWI airport, watching the planes.

Driving in North Carolina we saw some interesting sights related to food.

Love the name of this restaurant.  Great logo, too!

Then there was the sweet potato truck spotted later in the trip

The day of show we arrived at the arena early and saw Paul arrive.

After a bite to eat and brief meeting with the brother and sis-in-law of an old friend (who was a Fan On The Run in the 1970s), it was on to the concert.

Show was great, capped off by an acquaintance getting her foot signed by Paul in response to her "Trick or Treat, Sign My Feet" sign!  Later she said she made the sign as a joke, not expecting she'd be called up on stage.

A fun time on this US "leg-end" of the tour!

Candlestick Park Part 2 14 August 2014

San Francisco - Part 2

THURSDAY, AUGUST 14

We went in early before most people took their seats.  We encountered many other "fans on the run" from near and far.

Jude preferred not to appear in the blog - but here she is, Staten Island girl (via Brooklyn) borrowing GT's SI jacket.

This was more than a Paul McCartney concert for many in attendance - Candlestick Park, former home of the SF Giants and 49ers, was hosting its last event ever.  The guy sitting next to me was pulling up handfuls of Candlestick turf as a souvenir.

DJ Chris Holmes entertained the crowd while people took their seats.

Beautiful dusky sky as showtime neared.  Little did we know many people were stuck in gridlocked traffic on the road leading to Candlestick.  Some never made it to the concert!

Finally - showtime!

Paul sported a set of Union Jack braces.

Included in the show were  a couple of special songs - San Francisco Bay Blues and...

... the last song at the last official Beatles concert, at Candlestick in 1966:

Long Tall Sally!!
What a show!  After catching up with Steve M. and others afterwards, we headed out.  Jennie had parked near the exit and we were on our way in no time... into a traffic jam.  Happily that provided an opportunity to take a cell phone photo of the stadium.  Bye-bye, Candlestick!

Candlestick Park Part 1 14 August 2014

San Francisco - Part 1

THURSDAY, AUGUST 14

Jennie, Kris, and Jude traveled out there to Candlestick Park, site of the Beatles' last concert. The Beatles show was the first concert at Candlestick; Paul's would be the last-ever event there.

On show day, we set off early to avoid traffic. Next door to Jude's hotel was an El Torito - reminder for Kris of her days in LA!

We arrived early and were able to listen to soundcheck from outside the stadium.

Special "Last Pick at the 'Stick" t-shirts and sweatshirts were on sale at the merch stands.

Steve M. had warned Jennie to wear "winter clothes" for the chilly Candlestick temps. The cool breeze was relentless as we waited outside for doors to open, but no parkas were needed.

Special souvenir "tickets" were handed out on entry to the stadium.

Two weeks later, getting ready to get out there to Minneapolis!

Sue is getting ready for Minneapolis show tomorrow...

Katie gets to ride along. She's a Paul fan, too.
(She tore a ligament and will be wearing a splint the next 6 weeks,
and is restricted to short leash walks for the next 4 months)

Alas, heading for home...

Cows welcomed us back to Iowa

Dropping Jennie off at the hotel in Minneapolis. They let her in so apparently she passed the guns test.

A selfie for parting of ways - for now.

Sue home in Wisconsin. Tucker of course greeted Sue with his eagle

Next up: Sue heads Out There to Minneapolis in 2 weeks!

Got there too late to position ourselves on correct side of vehicle.
Here is the enthusiastic crowd as Paul's SUV arrived.

What we here came for!

TUESDAY: Hangin' Out There in Iowa & Nebraska

TUESDAY JULY 15

Tuesday brought us a free day to explore with friends Roger and Kellie. Gorgeous weather - temps in 70's with no humidity.

Our visit to the museum at De Soto National Wildlife Refuge featured the recovered steamboat Bertrand and EAGLES to photograph for Tucker.

Not sure about the eagles in this nest.

Mystery pieces of cut cloth recovered from the sunken steamboat Bertrand. Presumably some sort of seamstress pieces but even the historians who went through the artifacts haven't figured out what these are. Any ideas?

Not an eagle

Dundee, Nebraska was all abuzz when Paul McCartney and Warren Buffett had dinner together and stopped by eCreamery for some ice cream afterward on Sunday.

Three teenagers had their pictures taken in front of the bench where Paul and Warren were relaxing. This photo and the story was featured on the national media.

We just happened to be wandering around Omaha on Tuesday so we decided to stop by for a photo op. Only problem is, "someone" picked the wrong bench in front of eCreamery. As Roger remarked later, "They must have added those buildings between Sunday and Tuesday."

On a roll, we decided to reenact another photo near eCreamery.

Paul had quite an impact - gas price was down 10 cents by Tuesday.

eCreamery changed its ice cream flavor names in honor of Paul

and created a special label for the vanilla bean flavor that Paul ordered.
